and there she goes

The following events take place between 4 PM and 7 PM.

Friday was my last day of work doing construction and we had just finished up a project at Sun Valley Lake, about an hour out of Des Moines. I was so thrilled to be done, and couldn't wait to spend this special weekend with the family. Amy, Jeremy, and Gram, all flew in for my dad's farewell service at 1st Assembly.

I wasn't even 15 miles into my commute, when all of the sudden, on the interstate, my car began to rapidly lose speed with my foot on the gas. I pulled over and noticed my oil light was on. It had come on and off for the last couple days, and I just thought it was giving me a friendly reminder to change my oil. Well, little did I know, when that oil light comes on, your oil is gone. Oh ok, that's cool, so my oil is gone...that is no big deal, I will just get an oil change. And, little did I know, running out of oil is a little worse than running out of gas. Ha, I am not a car buff by any means. So I immediately called AAA to tow my car back to Des Moines. At this point I still didn't understand the seriousness of the situation.

As I awaited my friends from AAA, I was in my car and it was getting very hot. At one point, I thought I may not make it much longer (as in I may die), when there was a knock on my car window. It was a Hispanic man who asked if I was ok, to which I replied, "yes I am great, my car just ran out of oil!" He seemed to have a, "ya that's just great man...NOT", kind of a look on his face. However, he gave me a 64 ounce bottle of cold water, which is what gave me the strength to make it.

Blah..blah..blah. Ok, now I am at Firestone, in Urbandale, about two hours later, with a car that couldn't beat a zamboni off the line. Believe it or not, it wasn't until this point, I finally realized, running out of oil just blew up my engine and totally ruined my 1998 Toyota Camry.

It was a long day!
